Frequently Asked Questions

FG% = (Field Goals Made ÷ Field Goal Attempts) × 100. For example, making 10 of 20 attempts gives FG% = 50%. Free throws are NOT counted in FG%; they have their own percentage (FT% = FTM ÷ FTA × 100).

eFG% = (FGM + 0.5 × 3PM) ÷ FGA. It adjusts raw FG% to give credit for three-pointers being worth 50% more than two-pointers. A player hitting 50% on 2s and another hitting 33% on 3s have the same eFG% (50%), because both score 1.0 point per attempt.

NBA FG% benchmarks: below 42% = below average; 42–47% = average; 47–52% = good; 52–57% = very good; above 57% = elite. Centers typically have higher FG% due to short-range attempts; guards and wings typically shoot 42–50%. Compare by position and shot type for the most useful context.

2P% = (FGM − 3PM) ÷ (FGA − 3PA). This isolates non-three-point attempts, which is especially useful for analyzing interior scorers or mid-range shooters. Elite paint scorers typically post 2P% above 60%.

All Shooting Percentage Formulas

FG% = FGM ÷ FGA × 100 — raw shooting accuracy on all field goal attempts.

eFG% = (FGM + 0.5 × 3PM) ÷ FGA × 100 — three-point adjusted field goal efficiency.

3P% = 3PM ÷ 3PA × 100 — accuracy on three-point attempts only.

2P% = (FGM − 3PM) ÷ (FGA − 3PA) × 100 — accuracy on two-point attempts only.

FT% = FTM ÷ FTA × 100 — free throw accuracy.
