Weighted averages · GPA · Final exam score needed
Your grade before the final exam
What portion of the total grade is the final exam?
The final grade you want to achieve
How It Works
(Target − Current × (1 − FinalWeight))
÷ FinalWeight
Example: Current grade 78%, final exam = 30%
of total, target = 80%.
Needed = (80 − 78 × 0.70) / 0.30 = 83.3%

What is the Grade Calculator?
The Grade Calculator is a free online tool that helps students, teachers, and parents calculate weighted average grades, determine GPA, and find the minimum final exam score needed to achieve a target grade. It supports percentage, letter grade (A–F), and raw points input modes. The weighted grade formula Σ(score × weight) / Σ(weight) ensures each component — assignments, tests, midterms, and finals — contributes proportionally to the overall grade. In India, the 10-point CGPA scale is widely used; this calculator supports both the standard 4.0 GPA scale and a 10.0 scale conversion, making it suitable for CBSE, ICSE, and university students alike. Whether you need to plan your study strategy or verify a result before exams, this calculator provides instant, accurate answers with a clear breakdown.
How to Use the Grade Calculator
- 1. Select the Weighted Grade tab and choose your input mode: Percentage, Letter Grade, or Points Earned.
- 2. Add rows for each subject or assignment, enter the score and its weight (e.g. Maths 85%, weight 30).
- 3. Click Calculate Grade to see your weighted average, letter grade, and GPA instantly.
- 4. Switch to the Final Exam Needed tab to find what score you need on your final exam to reach a target grade.
- 5. Use the GPA Calculator tab to compute your cumulative GPA from multiple courses with credit hours.
Formula Used
Example: Assignments 90% (weight 20) + Midterm 75% (weight 30) + Final 85% (weight 50) = (18 + 22.5 + 42.5) / 100 = 83% (Grade B, 3.0 GPA).
Frequently Asked Questions
How is a weighted grade calculated?
Weighted grade = Σ(score × weight) / Σ(weight). Each component is multiplied by its weight and summed, then divided by the total weight. If weights sum to 100%, you divide by 100. Example: Midterm 75% (30) + Final 85% (50) + Assignments 90% (20) = (22.5 + 42.5 + 18) / 100 = 83%.
What is CGPA and how does it relate to percentage in India?
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is used in Indian schools and universities on a 10-point scale. CBSE uses the formula: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. For example, a CGPA of 9.0 corresponds to approximately 85.5%. Many Indian universities also use a 10.0 GPA scale where 10 = 100% (O grade) and 6 = 60% (B grade).
How do I calculate the score I need on my final exam?
Use the Final Exam Needed tab. The formula is: Required Final = (Target Grade − Current Grade × (1 − Final Weight)) / Final Weight. For example, if your current grade is 72%, the final is worth 40%, and your target is 80%: Required = (80 − 72 × 0.60) / 0.40 = (80 − 43.2) / 0.40 = 92%.
What GPA corresponds to different letter grades?
On the US 4.0 scale: A (90–100%) = 4.0, B (80–89%) = 3.0, C (70–79%) = 2.0, D (60–69%) = 1.0, F (below 60%) = 0.0. Plus/minus grades use intermediate values (e.g. A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3). On the Indian 10-point scale: O (Outstanding, 91–100%) = 10, A+ (81–90%) = 9, A (71–80%) = 8.
