Converting Cups to Grams Accurately
A cup is a unit of volume, while grams measure mass (weight). Because different ingredients have different densities, 1 cup of flour is not the same weight as 1 cup of sugar or 1 cup of honey. This is why a simple multiplication factor cannot work across all ingredients — each one requires its own gram-per-cup density value.
This cups-to-grams calculator covers 48 ingredients across 9 categories: flour and grains, sugars and sweeteners, fats and oils, dairy, grains and cereals, baking essentials, nuts and seeds, mix-ins, and liquids. All values are based on the US customary cup (240 mL) and standard measurement practices — flour is spooned and leveled, brown sugar is packed, and so on.
The input field accepts both decimal notation (0.5, 1.75) and fraction notation (1/2, 1 3/4). Use the quick preset buttons for the most common cup fractions. Simply select your ingredient, enter the cup amount, and get the gram equivalent instantly — along with tablespoon and teaspoon equivalents.
